During the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, tourism to the Whistler/Blackcomb ski resort exploded as people from all over the world gathered together to watch the men’s and women’s downhill skiing, biathlon and sliding events. Whistler/Blackcomb is recognized as the largest ski area in North America. The mountain is conveniently located a mere 137km from Vancouver International Airport. You can even book a float plane or train for a unique experience.
Once there, you can access the mountain easily with two large gondolas that operate out of Whistler village. There are several chairlifts including the Wizard Express which is situated at the very base of Blackcomb mountain. The Whistler Resort is comprised of two mountains in which Blackcomb measures in at 7,349 feet and Whistler measures in at a whopping 7,160 feet.
