Revelstoke is nestled in the Shuswap region of British Columbia, Canada and is also home to the Revelstoke Mountain Ski Resort which was recently opened. There are several nearby attractions including Three Valley Gap which has a historical museum and railcars.
The community of Revelstoke was founded because of the Canadian Pacific Railway which is the second largest railway in Canada and was completed not very far from Revelstoke.
The Revelstoke Railway Museum contains a huge amount of information as well as an old steam locomotive known as #5468.
The Revelstoke Mountain Resort features a huge vertical drop of over 1800 meters and has 21 lifts with 115 skiiable runs ranging from beginner to advanced. The size of the resort when finished will have over 10,000 acres which will make it the largest ski resort in North America. In an annual snowfall the mountain receives on average 472 inches of snow which is 20% more then the Whistler/Blackcomb ski resort and is at a higher altitude.
The ski resort also has a snowboard park as well as a gondola for those who want to take an overhead view of the resort. The ski and snowboard runs consist of 7% beginner 45.5% intermediate and 47.5% expert. The mountain typically opens in the month of November and closes in the month of April depending on the weather conditions.
Revelstoke has a wide selection of property rentals available including ski lodges and chalets. There are only a handful of motels in the area and with a vacation rental property you can have your own kitchen and make your own meals. Revelstoke is definitely a skiers dream come true.
